How Much Turmeric in a Day is Healthy? – You May Be Surprised

Ok. I love turmeric. I love it’s benefits, it’s taste and I love it’s healing power. But how much turmeric in a day is healthy? Let’s start with how much turmeric I have. I have turmeric in my juices at least five times a week. 2 to 4 inches of the root each day. I am fit, healthy and have never had any side effects from taking it. From my point of view you can take as much as you like and it won’t harm you. But common sense tells you to take what you need and that is it. So I really have to ask ‘how much turmeric in a day is healthy?

Different Types of Turmeric

Another thing to consider is how many different ways you can take turmeric and how much of the active ingredient curcumin it contains. Here are some of the ways to take turmeric –

  • Fresh turmeric root
  • Turmeric dried root powder
  • Supplements
  • Liquid extracts
  • Turmeric bars

How much turmeric in a day is healthy? All these different types of turmeric have different amounts of curcumin. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and is the most potent part of the root. However turmeric root only contains between 2 and 5 per cent of curcumin.

But how much turmeric in a day is healthy? Let’s look at the research and what dosage is recommended (and if you know me you know I don’t trust research as most of it is done by those with an agenda like Big Pharmaceutical companies).

The University of Maryland in the US has done some research studies on turmeric and they recommend the following doses –

  • Fresh turmeric root – 1.5 to 3 grams per day.
  • The root powder turmeric – 1 to 3 grams per day
  • Standardized powder (curcumin) – 400 – 600 mg, 3 times per day
  • Fluid extract (1:1) – 30 – 90 drops a day

Which is fine. However they do say in their studies that there are side effects. This is an extract from their paper –

“Turmeric and curcumin supplements are considered safe when taken at the recommended doses. However, taking large amounts of turmeric for long periods of time may cause stomach upset and, in extreme cases, ulcers. People who have gallstones or obstruction of the bile passages should talk to their doctor before taking turmeric.

If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor before taking turmeric supplements. Turmeric may lower blood sugar levels. When combined with medications for diabetes, turmeric could cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Although it is safe to eat foods with turmeric, pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take turmeric supplements.

Because turmeric may act like a blood thinner, you should stop taking it at least 2 weeks before surgery. Tell your doctor and surgeon that you have been taking turmeric.”

Why I Don’t Trust Doctors and Big Pharma

how much turmeric in a day is healthyWarning: Controversial section! – Do you see the connection here? Doctors! According to most research that is done on natural remedies like turmeric they always ask people to consult their doctor first. Do you know why? Because doctors are beholden to the Big Pharmaceuticals and Big Pharma doesn’t want anyone steering to far away from pills.

Medication, pills, vaccines and the cold and flu tablets you buy in the chemist or supermarket are making Big Pharma and doctors billions of dollars a year. So of course they have set limits on how much turmeric you can take before you apparently get side effects. And they always make sure you know that natural remedies can interfere with their medications. So the message is don’t take natural remedies while you are on medications because Big Pharma will lose money!

Ok so that is my little rant on Big Pharma. Don’t trust them as far as I could throw them. But lets get a little more serious here. There are other studies that say you can take up to 8grams a day

Certainly as a preventative measure 4 to 5 grams a day is safe. For curative measures 8 to 10 grams is fine as this Pubmed article shows.

So what does all this tell you? No one knows how much turmeric you can take a day. Yes you may get an upset stomach but our bodies know far better than any doctor or Pharmaceutical company how much natural foods we can eat. We don’t trust our bodies enough because we have been brought up in a society that believes every word our doctor says.

These are far better for your blood pressure than pills

Let me give you an example. In the late 90’s my doctor told me my blood pressure was rising and although it was not at a bad level she placed me on blood pressure medication. She told me once I started taking these pills I could never stop because if I did I may die. Yes you read that right. ‘If you stop taking the pills Kevin you may die.’

Now that kind of statement is going to scare anyone! So like a good little sheep I started paying $50 a month for my blood pressure medication. Fast forward to 2012, and yes I was still paying my $50 a month for my pills, and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. As it turns out I was sent on a 10 week secondment with my job to an immigration detention centre in the far north west of Australia, a place called Curtin.

I decided I would buy a 10 week batch of the pills to keep taking while I was away. That’s when my partner, Joy, stepped in. She told me I should just stop taking them as I was very healthy, did lots of running and swimming and my blood pressure was good. I was a little scared, after all my doctor said if I stop taking them I might die, but I decided to take her advice. I stopped cold turkey.

Throw Away Your Blood Pressure Pills!

First day of my secondment I threw the pills in the bin. 10 weeks later I was still alive and feeling great! My blood pressure was fine. Nearly 20 years of taking these pills and I never needed them. If that is not telling you something then nothing will. I was taking pills and paying a big pharmaceutical company $50 a month for nothing. How many other men and women out there are doing the same? Ruby red grapefruits do a far better job of lowering your blood pressure than any statin drugs.

As for my prostate diagnosis you can read about how I healed prostate cancer naturally here>>>>>

The really funny thing is that i had an enlarged prostate to start with that was healed after I stopped taking the pills along with some fasting and Don Tolmans protocol. Needless to say I don’t see doctors anymore.

I get as much turmeric into me as I can!

But let’s get back to the main reason for this article. Turmeric is a natural food, a healing food and a safe food. There is no reason to take bucket loads to heal yourself. You only need 5 to 8 grams 3 or 4 times a week. It is not going to harm you it is only going to help and heal you. How much turmeric in a day is healthy? As much as you need and feel is good for you.

If turmeric root or powder is not available in your area then this is the best liquid form of turmeric I know.

PuraTHRIVE Organic Liposomal Turmeric Extract is bioavailable which means it can be absorbed straight into the blood stream. Many supplements don’t do that. Be careful and thoroughly research what you decide to buy.
