I love turmeric no matter how it comes but for me the best turmeric recipes are delicious and healthy juices! Like the one I have added below. You can also see how it is made, step by step, in the video above.

Turmeric and Curcumin Research

As you may or may not be aware turmeric is a very healing herb and it’s main active ingredient, curcumin, is being researched consistently in universities, laboratories and medical facilities around the world. Why is it being studied? because of it’s almost miracle like healing properties. With more than 6,000 research studies already complete you can see why turmeric and curcumin are creating such a fuss. From healing cancer to helping to treat Alzheimer’s and diabetes, turmeric is a must for anyone who wants to achieve optimal health. Thats why I love the convenience of adding it to a juice.

The Best Turmeric Recipes – Apple, Turmeric and Ginger

Turmeric is my favourite healing herb! (thats pretty obvious I guess haha!) In this video and article I show you how to make a really healthy turmeric breakfast juice, or as I like to call it a turmeric shot! There are many juices I use throughout my week but this one combines the healing power of both turmeric and ginger with the anti oxidant power of apples to combine in a super start to the day. This juice gets rid of brain fog as well as healing any aches or pains.

Ingredients

2 apples
3 inches of turmeric
2 inches of ginger
add pinch of black pepper
add teaspoon of coconut or extra virgin olive oil

The black pepper and coconut oil help the turmeric absorb in the body. Black pepper contains an ingredient called piperine. Piperine is a molecule that can inhibit enzymes that would attack other molecules. Because of this it is added toΒ many other supplements to increase their absorption rates. It should always be consumed with curcumin.

Method

Put all the ingredients through the juicer. I use an Oscar Neo DA 1000. Great cold pressed juicer! (add the pepper and oil after juicing) and enjoy.

How this Juice Heals and Protects Your Body

Now these are just some of the healing properties found in the ingredients of your juice. There are many more. So really the question is why wouldn’t you incorporate turmeric and other healthy fruits, vegetables and herbs into your diet and lifestyle? The answer I get from many people is that we can’t get turmeric where I live.

A Healthy Alternative

I have tried many supplements over the years and I have to be honest – 99% of them had zero effect on me. Most of them have minute amounts of the active ingredient and the rest was just filler. With turmeric increasing in popularity there are many supplements on the market. Now my philosophy is never to use supplements unless you cannot get a hold of the real thing. And thoroughly research any supplements you do wish to purchase.

My Recommendation – If you honestly can’t get a hold of the real ingredients then, and only then, use a supplement. I have looked at many on the market and the best by far in my humble opinion is Pura Thrive’s Turmeric. It comes in liquid form and most importantly is able to be absorbed by the body. Most turmeric tablets and supplements are simply that – turmeric powder that is hard to absorb – You need it to be bioavailable meaning easily absorbed into the body. Pura Thrive is easily absorbed.   1. Hi Kevin, you have an interesting post. To tell you honestly, I have not ever tried to consume turmeric so I don’t know how it tastes. I like ginger though. I boil it then keep it in the fridge and drink it cold. I have heard all about the health benefits derived from turmeric, probably I should try drinking it. I just wonder how it taste, if it is something I can tolerate. Which is the best way to take it, raw, powdered or liquid?

    • Hi Rebecca, yes its an amazing and healing plant turmeric, that is for sure. I make a paste now called Golden Paste. I put a cup of turmeric powder and 2 cups of water together and cook on the stove for around 10 minutes. I then add crushed black peppercorns (just a half teaspoon) then a third cup of coconut or olive oil – these help it to get into your blood. I add a spoonful to smoothies, juices, stir fries, soups, stews and even my porridge. Really good stuff. Try it and let me know what you think. Cheers,

I have read many things about turmeric and its therapeutic effect in cancer and I am about to incorporated in my diet routine as well!   6. Every time I read an article like this i am amazed at what simple basic foods like turmeric, ginger, apples etc can do for us. We tend to get away from these natural ingredients today as it is much easier to go through a drive thru and order some fast food. I will definitely be trying out this recipe. The one thing that surprised me that I did not know is that black pepper helps other ingredients like turmeric to be absorbed in the body.

    Turmeric is indeed one of the best spice for overall health. There are many simple ways to incorporate turmeric into our diet.

    Lately, I found a simple turmeric tea recipe. Put 1/2 tsp turmeric powder in 2 cups water. Simmer for 10 mins. Add honey and/or lemon. Or sprinkle some turmeric powder on your omelette.

    I can’t wait to try this drink, with its powerful ingredients, one cannot go wrong. I’ve decided recently to incorporate turmeric in almost everything I cook. I don’t find that, when added in a decent amount, it tastes so much. I’ve also read that, when mixed with black pepper, the good properties of turmeric can be greatly increased. But it would be hard to incorporate black pepper in a juice…feasible but hard to drink. I see you have liquid turmeric, I didn’t know this form was available. I usually use organic turmeric powder, is this good enough? I have yet to try to find fresh turmeric, I guess that would be ideal. But in the meantime, would the liquid turmeric taste better when added in a juice?

      Thanks for your comment1 Appreciate your time. I do put black pepper and coconut oil in my juices and smoothies. Although if I have avocado in my smoothie i don’t need the oil because the avocado has oil in it. You don’t need much pepper at all just a pinch. I have grown to like the taste.

      Yes when I am unable to get my hands on the root I use the Pura Thrive liquid and yes its ideal in a juice as it already has the ingredients to absorb. So you don’t need pepper or oil and the taste is actually far less extreme.

      The powder is ok but again you need the pepper and oil added. If cooking its not an issue. just the juices and smoothies need to be made bioavailable so it absorbs πŸ™‚

  9. Hey Kevin, so glad you were able to reverse the prostrate cancer.
    I have heard of the healing properties of Turmeric for some time now. I use it in powdered form in my protein shakes.
    Do you know if there is a large difference in the properties of fresh vs. powdered? I don’t remember ever seeing it in the raw at the grocery store, however I have never looked for it. Since reading your blog I will definitely look for it.

      Thanks for the comments. The powdered has been heated then dried and made into the powder. All it loses is the moisture so no real difference. The important thing is to add the black pepper and oil so it absorbs into the body. It can be hard to find the raw root. It depends where you live. In the more tropical areas its not hard to find. A lot of indian stores may well have it.

  10. Hello here. I see that you are turmeric fan. This spice was mostly used in Indian cuisine, was not?
    I use it by myself for everything, except smoothies. I can not explain why but for me turmeric is best with vegetables, various pasta dishes.
    I like this bright color which is cheerful.
    I like that this spice has antiflammatory activity and is very strong antioxidant. Besides it, turmeric reduces pain, what is good for people with arthritis and rheumatism.
    Especially now at winter this spice can prevent from cold, can it?

  11. It’s quite baffling the amount of healing properties turmeric has..
    There have been thousands of researches & studies already for that exact same reason.

    Your juice recipe sounds just mouthwatering! I want to try & make one straight away.
    I’ve always enjoyed healthy life style & healthy eating in general – It results in more energy, better shape, much less illnesses..
    Anyone who’s been there, know what it feels like.

    I’m also one of those folks who can’t get turmeric too easily where I reside – It’s pretty exotic around here.
    Pura Thrive sounds like a solid back-up plan to go with.

  12. Hi Kevin. I like your recipe. definetly will try it. I think you are right about supplements. Most of them are not good. I want to say, most of them is just hardend turmeric powder an that is misleading because, when people think turmeric for health they often imagine curcumin cause the have heard it is very potent.
    I use pure powder in meals but when I want something stronger I will look into that pura thrive you reccomend. Thanks a lot.

    • Yes I use supplements as a last resort Nikola. As you lead to many are full of rubbish and it is hard to find a decent one.

    Do you recommend organic ingredients? I think I can find real ingredients but organic ginger and organic turmeric would be hard to find.

    So you juice the ingredients and don’t consume the fiber? Wouldn’t that be a waste of nutrients? I’m very frugal so I like to get what I pay for.

    • Hi Sofia,

      I do recommend organic but if you can’t get organic then wash the produce in a sink of water and add half a cup of apple cider vinegar. Leave it sit for about 5 minutes. That cleans off the chemical residue.

      The juicing actually squeezes out all the nutrients and they go straight to your blood stream instead of being digested slowly. I juice to detox my body and give my digestion a rest. I still eat lots of fruit and vegetables for fibre. When I fast though it is just water and juice. I fast for 7 days at the change of each season.
