What is Golden Paste? This is a question I asked myself some months back as I had heard of it and knew it contained turmeric but had no idea how you made it or what it’s uses were. Having a website devoted to the amazing healing powers of turmeric I figured it was well and truly time to find out how it was made and it’s benefits. I am a firm believer that it is important to keep learning every day of our lives. So learning all about Golden Paste was a day of learning for me.
It turns out Golden Paste (also known as Turmeric Paste), is an easy condiment to make and has amazing benefits for the body. Golden Paste is also great for animals, mainly dogs and horses. More on that later. Turmeric has been used for over 4,000 years medicinally (read a history of turmeric) and has been proven scientifically to be equal to or more effective than 14 different Rx drugs. (prescription drugs)
So taking it daily in a cooked paste that is designed to assist with its absorption into the body is an easy way to tap into it’s amazing benefits.

But I can assure you it IS a Super Paste!
How to Make Golden Paste
There are many different ways to make Golden Paste but I will stick with the basic way but also mention other ingredients that you can add to the recipe.
Turmeric powder, organic raw cold pressed coconut or olive oil, freshly ground black pepper corns, fresh filtered water. That’s it. It is preferable that all ingredients are organic where possible.
1/2 cup of turmeric powder
1/3 cup of coconut oil
3 tea spoons ground peppercorns
1 cup of water (preferably clean filtered water) Can use coconut water if preferred.
Mix the turmeric powder and water into a pot or a pan (whatever you prefer to cook with) Some recipes say bring to boil but I prefer to put it on high heat for around 1 minute then allow it to cook on a low heat and keep stirring for 4 to 7 minutes until it produces a thick paste. It will get hot and have steam coming off it but usually when I boil things I end up burning them haha! So I will steer clear of boiling it but it is cooked very well with my method. You can add more water if it gets too thick for you. I like mine fairly thick.
Once you are happy with the mix pour the paste into a mixing bowl. Then add the black pepper and oil. Stir these ingredients by hand until they are all mixed in together.
Allow to cool, then place the mix in a jar. This makes around 350grams. It will keep for up to 3 weeks in the fridge. I actually had one for nearly 4 weeks so it is quite hardy.

WHAT IS GOLDEN PASTE FAQ’s
Why use Black Peppercorns? The human body has a tough time absorbing turmeric and it’s active ingredient, curcumin. Black pepper contains piperine which is a substance that aids the bioavailability by up to 2,000%! That means the turmeric can be absorbed much better into the blood stream if you add the black pepper.
Why use Coconut oil? – Like the pepper, fats like coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil can assist in the bioavailability of the turmeric into the body.
How long will the Golden Paste last in the fridge? – Maximum 3 to 4 weeks. I have used Golden Paste that is 4 weeks old. You will know by the smell if it is going off.
Can I eat it straight out of the jar? – Absolutely. Be warned though it is an acquired taste. You can add cinnamon powder, ginger powder and coconut water to the mix to make it taste better.
