What is an Acai Bowl?

An acai bowl is a healthy mix of acai berries, (usually frozen and blended into the mix) muesli or granola and a cocktail of delicious fruits on top. There is a sprinkling of muesli on the bottom of the bowl, topped with the acai mix then a little more muesli and covered with berries and other fruit. Is your mouth watering yet?

Ok I wont keep you in suspenders! Here is the answer to what is the best acai bowl recipe!

turmeric heals

Hint – yes it does contain turmeric and some of my other favourite fruits. Here it is –

1 x block of acai frozen mix

1 x frozen banana

1 x avocado

Half a mango

1 half teaspoon of turmeric

pinch of black pepper

1 x banana

10 raspberries

10 blueberries

1 x Kiwi fruit in slices

4 strawberries sliced

Small amount of grated coconut

I like the crunchy granola or fruit free muesli

Around half a cup is all that is required.

what is golden paste

Add the acai mix into your blender. I use a Nutri Bullet. Add just a touch of apple juice, coconut water or clean water just so it mixes ok in the Nutri Bullet. Let it blend for around 20 or 30 seconds until it looks like its done.

Then put a quarter of the cup of muesli in your bowl. Add the mix. Then add the rest of the muesli on top of that.

Then slice your banana, strawberries and kiwi fruit and add around the bowl. Add the blueberries and raspberries and some grated coconut. Make it look as good as you can. I am not great with making it look like a real cafe bowl. The first 2 pics are obviously from the experts and the one just above here is my effort. No comparison on presentation but let me tell you I have them covered on taste!

Give it and try and comment below on what you think.

And as I always advise if you can’t get hold of turmeric powder or root get hold of some Pura Thrive Organic Turmeric Extract. It is what I use in many of my juices.

  1. This looks so good! and I love smoothies! I think I’ll add these to my grocery list and make me one of these!
Now is the Avocado season so this smoothie would be great! What can I do in a few months time when there won’t be so many avocado’s in the market? Can I do this smoothie without it?

    • Thanks Paulina!

Yes you can substitute a mango or watermelon or just use a couple of bananas Paulina. It is yummy with whatever you use.
Let me know what you think of it 🙂

  2. Yes, turmeric heals! I use it to manage my arthritis pain and to pamper my skin. Great stuff! I generally eat two teaspoons of turmeric a day. This Acai bowl sounds tasty.

I have never seen acai berries for sale. I would try them if I could find them in the freezer case. I wonder if this recipe would be good with blueberries and pomegranate?

    I have those.

    • Hi Elizabeth yes definitely give the blueberries and pomegranate a go. Let me know. I buy the acai frozen in packs of ten. Very easy to use. Great that you use turmeric. It is the best healer 🙂

  3. I have heard of this Acai bowl and have yet to try it.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I am going to get myself a bullet blender!!!

  4. I’m hooked. You have one of the best websites on the net for nutrition. Everything you post is chock full of ideas and healing components. I love turmeric! These Acai bowls sound awesome and filling as well. Keep it up. I am a fan. 🙂

      Much love, Kev

  5. Yummy! I am definitely going to try out this one. Because berries are my favourites. Looks so tempting and delicious. Please share with us what is the origin of this recepie?

    • Hi Arooj,

I just made this recipe up myself believe it or not haha! Yes berries are delicious and healthy. Acai berries have been around for many 1,000’s of years. Enjoy,

  6. Hi Kevin, this is great, you may not believe this, but my girlfriend just came home with a Nutri Bullet at the weekend as she is planning to make more smoothies and health shakes.

I was just looking around for some recipe and mix ideas and this one of yours sounds fantastic. I am definitely copying this down and adding to my ‘to try’ list.

With the frozen Acai mix, do you buy this? or do you mix this yourself and freeze ready for adding to the recipes? My girlfriend does use frozen berry mix so wondered if the Acai mix is something you can purchase.

Also, what are your thoughts on using bio live yoghurt or Kefir milk in this recipe?

    Best wishes

    • Hi Neil,

Great timing. Yes you can buy the acai in blocks that are frozen and make one acai bowl per block. Health food stores should have them.
I try to avoid dairy as a personal preference so I would use coconut yoghurt but kefir milk is fine. Get that Nutri Bullet buzzing Neil! You will love it!

  7. I’ve not heard of acai and I’m shocked (and a little embarrassed).
The recipe looks totally yummy and I think I’ll look for these in the shops. Everything else is readily accessible.
    Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Derek,

Yes you can buy the acai in blocks and use 1 block for each acai bowl you make. Shop around you will find it 🙂

  8. Mmmm, this looks and sounds so yummy!
I will be trying it and will be making my children try it too. It is such a healthy alternative to cereal which is laden with sugar. This recipe has all the ingredients in it which have been said to help people with chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis so I will definitely be giving it a go!
    Thank you for sharing.

    • Hi Roselle,

Thank you. Yes it is far better than sugar filled cereals! The acai is an amazing healer and with the turmeric and other fruits it is a health punch to the body haha! I know your kids will love it 🙂
